Joni Kuzma, CSW, started Kuzma Consulting in December of 2011 to provide an array of services including grant writing, consulting, strategic planning, program management and more as a certified grant administrator through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. She is also trained in ToP (Technology of Participation) Facilitation Methods.
Ms. Kuzma specializes in grant writing, research and management. Her strong research and organizational skills, excellent writing, communication and presentation skills have only enhanced her grant writing and administration abilities.
Some of her most recent grant writing and administration projects include the Grand Theatre Renovation Tourism Grant (2011), the Neighborhood Stabilization Grant (2011), the Case New Holland Economic Development Grant (2011), the Community Revitalization Block Grant (2011), and the Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (2009).
Ms. Kuzma has written and co-written a variety of other grants from many different agencies for a variety of organizations. Her understanding and knowledge of community services and organizations has aided in successfully funding projects through grants. During her 11-year tenure with the City of Grand Island as the Community Development Administrator, Ms. Kuzma coordinated programs and events for housing, economic development planning and tourism. She researched and prepared grant applications for many City departments and community organizations. She was responsible for the management of quarterly and annual reports for state and federal grant, which she also administered. She was responsible for maintaining files for auditing and monitoring and also monitored Davis-Bacon compliance. She also managed multiple financial accounts for the Community Development Division budget.
Before working with City of Grand Island, Ms. Kuzma spent time at St. Francis Medical Center as a Medical Social Worker, as well as at the Grand Island Public Library where she designed and implemented the Family Place plan which is currently an active and thriving library program for families with children ages 0-5 years old.
Ms. Kuzma is active and heavily involved in numerous state and community boards and committees. She is currently serving her second term on the Governor’s Nebraska Child Abuse Prevention Fund Board. She is a member of University of Nebraska at Kearney, Social Work Field Placement committee; a member of and past Chair of the North Central Regional Continuum of Care on Housing and Homelessness; and also a member of the Statewide Balance of State Continuum of Care Committee.
Ms. Kuzma earned her Bachelor of Science, Social Work from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and graduating Summa Cum Laude. She was awarded the 1998 Outstanding Social Work student.
